Tasha Cobbs Leonard

Break Every Chain

Happy Wednesday Golden Divas!

During this past lent season I found myself giving up much more than food. I challenged myself to listen to more gospel music not just on Sunday while I was getting ready for church or in the car, going to point A to get to point B, but every day at home while I am praising God.

Ladies, have you ever had a gospel singer that spoke to your heart? I ask that question because as you may know music motivates the very essence of my soul; especially gospel music. When I was growing up, I had some old-time favorites, but as you may know as a child, it was just music in a Sunday service, and to be honest, most of it was very dull to me. However, as I have gotten older gospel music has been a part of my every being that gives me hope for my future. It has evolved over the years, and so have I.

Some of the favorites that I have come to rely on that have ministered to my heart as an adult and helped to carry me through are the following gospel artists’ songs.

‘Made A Way’ by Travis Greene (this is my all-time favorite song and yes it stands alone)

‘Speak To My Heart,’ by Donnie McClurkin
‘No Weapon’ by Fred Hammond
‘Order My Steps’ by GMWA Women of Worship

Then there’s that gospel duo and group that took my worship to another level of praise with ALL of their songs, like ‘Mary Mary’ and’ Kirk Franklin.’

But, Golden Divas have you ever kept on hearing songs that you like and didn’t know who the artist was? All you knew is whenever you listened to the song you felt as though the singer was directly singing it to you? It took me a minute to realize this was the same lady elevating my praise with her powerful songs and when it all came together I was hooked to how she blended Christian music and gospel music. If you don’t know her, you need to know her, because her music will take your praise into the stratosphere of praise and worship.

As you may know from the title of this post, I’m talking about GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING recording artist/songwriter TASHA COBBS LEONARD and yes, she is nowhere close to being a Golden Diva, however it is imperative that I shout out one of the most prominent artists in gospel music. However, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard did not just rise to the hall of fame overnight; her music career began back at her father’s church, Jesup New Life Ministries, where she was running the family’s music ministry. This practice started right from her childhood and became a lifestyle until her young adult years. With the history that she keeps making, it is inevitable that her level of influence has kept rising since her first release.

Her 2013 debut album, Grace, featuring the RIAA Gold-certified smash hit “BREAK EVERY CHAIN,” continues to be one of the highest-selling collections of the past five years. With her 2015 follow-up, One Place Live, she earned another GRAMMY nomination and multiple accolades, including two Billboard Music Award nominations, a BET Award nomination, and being named the Top Female Gospel Artist and the Most Streamed Gospel Artist of 2016 by Billboard.

Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s latest release of her most ambitious and intimate project to date, HEART. PASSION. PURSUIT. is an original in-studio live recording with 30 worship leaders from across the country. The project presents a universal sound of worship music, breaking congregational and cultural barriers, with guest artists including Kierra Sheard and Nicki Minaj.

Now, Golden Divas you know the gospel industry wasn’t haven’t that! Nicki Minaj no way! That’s why I love this young woman she took a chance, went against all the odds, plus no one saw this coming, and it exploded to greatness!

You can’t tell me what God can and cannot do!!!

Now ladies, when I first heard ‘Break Every Chain’ which landed as Billboard’s #1 song for a total of 12 weeks and in my heart forever, I couldn’t stop playing it over and over again. Some of her other songs that were imprinted into my soul are the following:

‘Break Every Chain’ (it stands alone too)

‘Your Spirit’
‘You Know My Name’
‘Gracefully Broken’
‘I’m Getting Ready’
‘For Your Glory’
‘Put A Praise On It’
‘Fill Me Up’

As you can see, I can go on and on with her music. Among other gospel songs, one of the things that have distinguished Tasha Cobbs songs is the inspiration that each of the lyrics gives. They pass a series of spiritual messages to any listener.

If you’ve never seen this powerhouse in concert let me suggest that you find a way to get in her presence until that happens catch her story on the finale of TV One ‘Unsung’ her backstory is beautiful and you will see God walking with her every step of the way in her singing journey.

‘Break Every Chain’ anthem unleashed liberation to countless audiences nationwide each time it was heard or ministered. The album Grace landed on Billboard’s Top 10 Gospel Albums chart for a year. It was definite that the world had received not just another singer, but a rare gift. From a small town in Georgia, Tasha grew up as a vital part of her church. She began her trial sermon at 11 years old. As she rose to fame, of course, came the critics. Tasha laid it all down on Unsung about how she never feared the backlash she faced.

The woman s full of surprises, Grammy-winning gospel singer Tasha Cobbs and her husband Kenneth Leonard pulled off a surprise wedding to remember. All while ‘Staying At The Feet Of Jesus!’

Golden Divas, let’s stay inspired by Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s beautiful music! Thank you, Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary for taking gospel music to another level and opening up doors for the next generation to soar.

Tasha, songs have carried me through so many difficult times by uplifting me to worship through my pain, hurt, and finding my happiness and I hope it helps you to ‘Break Every Chain’ in your life too!
