9 Blessing Blockers That May Prevent You From Getting Your Blessings
Go Get It: Your Blessing!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~Philippians 4:13
Hello Golden Divas!
Let’s get real here! We want more things than ever in our lives now, prosperity, good health, maintaining our jobs, better relationships with family and friends and overall a better you.
But what is keeping us from having it all? Dare I say it…we play the comparing game. We compare our lives to others that we deem not worthy of having their blessings manifested.
Have you ever had the thought, “Hmm, something just doesn’t seem right here.”
“I’m doing all the right things, reading my bible, going to church, I’m even tithing…so where’s my blessing?” “Why am I still struggling?” “Why is my money still not tight?” She ain’t done have of what I’m doing and I know she ain’t in church as much as I am.
So why does it look like she is getting blessed every day all day? Uuuuuggghh!!!
Sound familiar? You know when you’re all up in someone else’s business God can’t be about your business. Plus you’re blocking your blessings when we do so.
STOP! Worrying about what other people have and focus on getting your blessing!
You don’t know what that Golden Diva is going through. You’re on the outside looking in trying to justify why you’re NOT getting BLESSED!
You don’t know what that Golden Diva is doing to achieve her success so stop assuming. She might be on her knees praying hard to get where she’s at so that her blessings won’t BLOCKED.
Check out this video “It’s The God In Me” by Mary Mary (I love them)!!
Well, ladies I know that has been my story in the past and sometimes in the present. I can be doing everything right and nothing seems to be going right. Good Lawd what does it take to make it in this world. I mean really?! Can a girl catch a break!
And then on top of all of that, I hear “Girl don’t block your blessings” worrying about what others got!
LADIES, WE CAN BE OUR WORST ENEMY!
Okay, so what’s really going on? What does it mean to block your blessings? Well, let’s talk about…so that you can go and get your blessings!
9 Blessing Blockers That May Prevent You From Getting Your Blessings!
Blessing Blocker 1: Disobedience
Our minds automatically go to the big stuff. Drunkenness, sex outside of marriage, partying, drugs, etc…what about when the Lord tells you to forgive someone who wronged you and you haven’t or to bless your sister with some money when you know she’s running low and need some help. You have it to give and you don’t because you have that money set aside to get some more weave hair, clothes, jewelry etc. Or maybe the Lord has told you to volunteer more, help the elderly or simply be kinder to those who wronged you. Your reason I’m too busy and I still haven’t heard an apology from the person that wronged me. It’s call forgiveness and we will get to it a little later in this post.
Deuteronomy 28:1-14 says, “God promises us that “If we obey the voice of the Lord” then ALL these blessings will come upon us and overtake us. (Go read it for yourselves, the blessings promised to us are huge!)
But verse 15 tells us that “if we DON’T obey the voice of the Lord, then those blessings will NOT come upon us.”
One of the blessings God promises for obedience is that “He will command a blessing on your storehouse!”
Isaiah 48:17 is also very interesting: “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way that you should go. Oh, that you had hearkened to My commandments! Then your peace and prosperity would have been like a flowing river…”
The Lord teaches us to profit (that’s a good thing!) and He leads us in the way we should go.
He’s leading you, but are you obeying? Be honest Golden Divas!
He then tells us that had we listened to His commands (instructions) THEN our peace and prosperity would have been flowing like a river!
Is your peace and prosperity flowing right now? Uh huh?!
Then perhaps He’s given you instructions you haven’t obeyed yet.
Blessing Blocker 2: Covering Your Sins
“Cover your sins” could mean you are cheating on your spouse ( I know my Golden Divas that are married are not doing that) and you keep it hidden. I think we’d all agree that if you’re doing that you are obviously not going to prosper.
Or we often cover our sins in our own minds and hearts by not owning up to them and taking responsibility for them.
Proverbs 28:13 says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
Genesis 3:12 says when Adam ate the fruit after God told them not too. He covered his sin by saying, “The woman, whom You gave me, she gave me the fruit from the tree and I ate it.”
See how Adam passed the blame onto God? The woman whom YOU gave me Lord…like it was God’s fault for giving him that woman!
More practically, perhaps you covered your sin today when you started bashing your boss to your coworkers today, but then justified it because your boss is greedy and doesn’t pay you enough, or you feel like you haven’t gotten the praise you think you deserve.
Or you reason with those around you, that “It’s not my fault our money is tight at my house, my boss didn’t give me that raise he said he would.
Don’t cover up your sin, don’t justify your actions or your situation, just repent.
Own up to it, take the blame, change, and live free!
Blessing Blocker 3: Your Words!
God set before us blessings and the cursing, He said we get to pick what type of life we want to live. So how do we choose the blessing and life?
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, God did something amazing for us: “I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life….”
Proverbs 18:21 AMP tells us that, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” That means we get to choose life, by choosing our words.
Proverbs 18: 20 AMP reveals this truth: “A man’s [moral][/moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth, and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good=” or=” evil=”][/whether]”
Whoa. Ladies, I know this blocker may be hard for a lot of us but I want you to know that there are consequences to our words.
You do know negative thoughts can become negative words, and we all know words have power. Negative thinking can keep us captive. We can unknowingly choke our own blessings with negative thoughts.
We tend to think that if we expect the worse then we will not be as disappointed if things do not turn out the way we had hoped. It is time to stop speaking in a way that is inconsistent with what we want. Life is better when we keep a positive mindset.
Whether good or evil. It’s your choice.
Think about it Divas, do you go around speaking death and cursing over your finances?
“Honey, I just don’t know what it is, it just seems we can never get ahead…”
“Every month something else on the house breaks down and I got to replace it.”
“I’ll probably get passed over for this promotion too, seems like every time there’s an opening someone less qualified gets it.”
“I just can’t seem to lose this menopausal weight.”
Stop speaking like that. Flip your vocabulary towards life and blessing.
There will be a consequence of your words. Let’s make sure it’s a good consequence.
When it comes to your money, find out what God said about your situation, and then say those things.
Blessing Blocker 4: Offense
Are you offended often?
Being offended is rooted in PRIDE. You get offended when YOU are passed over for something.
When you’re not acknowledged for doing something that you said it was for Lord and deep down you was the one looking for all of the praises and the praises should only go to LORD. The one you were doing it for in the first place. Right?!
When your boss doesn’t pick you for the promotion.
When your pastor doesn’t ask you to speak or doesn’t pick you to lead a small group. Even though you’ve been around longer than others and know more than them.
When your manager says he likes your idea of the company, but then doesn’t use it and goes a different direction. The list can go on forever Divas.
Carrying this offense around is an indication your pride is running the show. Now you’re mad, you don’t want to help anymore, you think, “Why should I? They never use my ideas anyway.”
You then begin to isolate yourself, a root of bitterness begins to grow, you murmur and complain about your pastor, you start to infect others to try to get them to see things from your filter…it’s a downward spiral.
And it will block your blessings.
Blessing Blocker 5: Being Stingy
Lawd Jesus Golden Divas open up that closet that is filled with clothes that you know you can’t wear anymore. Let it go and give your unworn clothes to someone who can wear them and is in need of some clothes. Help someone out financially who is in need of a financial blessing.
Did you know God’s financial wisdom is fascinating? It’s literally the exact opposite of what the world teaches.
Proverbs 11:24-25 says, shows us the key to becoming wealthy.
“Give freely and become wealthier; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper…”
Another translation puts it this way:
“Some give freely and still get richer, while others are stingy but grow still poorer.
The person who blesses others will prosper…”
He literally tells us the decision-making process that will make you wealthy and prosperous: Give freely and be generous.
Giving freely and generously = Blessings unlocked.
So how do we lose everything and grow poor?
Be stingy that’s how!
But stingy doesn’t mean what you think it means. Most of us would say that we’re not stingy. We often think stingy people are greedy people rubbing their hands together with an evil, money hoarding plot…
But then I looked up the definition,
The definition of stingy is “unwilling to give, unwilling to spend, ungenerous
Can you see where this is going Golden Divas?
If you are unwilling to give, unwilling to spend, or if you’re ungenerous = #blessingsblocked!
So Divas you better check yo’self.
Blessing Blocker 6: Self Doubt
Remember the old saying “You never know until you try” Sometimes we have our minds programmed for failure and we expect the worse before we even try.
Think of how many talents, dreams, goals, businesses, gifts, jobs, relationships and so much more go to the grave with people. Fear is a roadblock stopping us from experiencing the life for which we were created to live.
James 1-8 says that “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
When we have doubt, we are double-minded. We need to remain constant in belief no matter what is going on. No matter how our bad situation looks ladies.
We need to decide if we are BELIEVERS or DOUBTERS. Recognizing this will help God restore your faith in areas you are stumbling. Do not be ashamed to confess this to God. It’s necessary to move forward.
Blessing Blocker 7: Pride
Being able to admit our faults and wrongdoings are what enables us to get back up and keep going when we fall.
Proverbs 24:16 says “The righteous may fall seven times but still get up, but the wicked will stumble into trouble.”
We sometimes allow pride to keep us down way longer than we have to be. I know I have been there plenty of times.
Blessing Blocker 8: Holding on to the past
Living in the past and refusing to move on only hinders growth and blessings. While you’re trying to hold on to a relationship that was never meant to be, Golden Divas let that no good man alone. I don’t care how fine he looks, has to go. Why? Because God is trying to make room for the right one to come into your life.
Blessing Blocker 9: Unforgiveness
I told you I will be back for this one, later on in the post. Here we are, ladies, it’s a tough one!!
“Whenever you kneel down to pray, if you have something against anyone, forgive so that your Father in heaven may forgive you of your wrongdoings.”
Matthew 11:22-25 tells us that if we don’t forgive others, then our faith is hindered. And that we must forgive others so that our Father will forgive our sins too.
Mark 11:25 basically says, Being able to forgive is so important. Not just because God commands it, but for OUR WELL-BEING as well. Unforgiveness emotionally ties you to a person for as long as you are carrying a grudge. Now ya’ll know we need to let some people go, emotionally, physically and psychologically.
Think of it as having a scab and just when the scab starts to heal, you peel it. That’s what unforgiveness does. It stops your healing process.
Forgive everyone quickly, do it now, and move on Divas.
Unlock The Key To Your Blessings
Now that you know the nine main blessing blocker, what are you going to do about it?
You can say, “Oh those don’t apply to me, the reason I’m broke right now is __________.” And fill in that blank with some justified excuse…
OR, you can take 20 minutes on your drive to work today and examine yourself.
Say, “God I ask you to show me if there is anything in my life that is blocking my blessing. I want to own up to it, I take full responsibility. Show me the areas I need to improve in so we can weed them out.”
Then be silent.
Listen to what He tells you.
Then do it. Repent. Fix it. And move forward.
And one last tip:
After you’ve weeded out your blessing blockers, the next step is to expect blessings to flow in your life!
YES! EXPECT BLESSINGS TO FLOW IN YOUR LIFE!!
Look for them, expect them, keep an open eye for them.
When you walk into a job interview, expect to get it!
When you enter a contest, expect to win it!
When you’re trying to lose weight, expect to lose it!
You walk in the blessing now, it’s who you are, you are a Blessed One.
Get used to it. Go and get your blessings Golden Divas!
