10 Beauty Habits You Should Do Every Night

Top 10 Home Remedies!!

Hello, Golden Divas!

The holiday season is in full effect and I totally get it. Christmas and New Year preparation and all of its delight can make us extremely busy. You know all of the runnings around that we are doing to find the best deals and the perfect gift can wear any Diva out. LOL.

Then you have all of the holiday parties to attend, the decorations, and the perfect dinner to cook so many festivities to look forward to and before you know it 2018 will be here!

So my question to you Golden Divas, in the midst of the fun, and the crazy chaos that’s taking place are you taking care of yourself? I know you’re trying to make sure everything is in order and everyone on your list is taken care of; however when the holidays come you DO want to look your best. RIGHT?!

Of course, you do, that is why it is so important that you take care of yourself during this time! I know my Golden Divas want to be flawlessly GORGEOUS and picture-perfect for the holidays and the only way to do that is by making sure you are meeting your own needs.

YOUR BEAUTY NEEDS!!

I was reading this article the other day and I found it quite interesting.; interesting enough to share with my fellow sistahs! Things that we might take for granted on a daily basis in our beauty regime. I must admit out of the 10 habits that the article suggested I know I religiously only do half of them and I know I don’t have perfect skin by know means I better get on the other half so that I can continue to fake it until I make it.

We know that throughout the day, the skin often gets exposed to harsh ultraviolet (UV) sun rays, dust and air pollution, harsh chemicals, and environmental conditions. I mean heck I just came in from outside and my allergies are on 10. Something is high in the air today along with the everyday pollution that is attacking my senses.

Now over time, this can cause significant damage to your skin and lead to various signs of premature aging like wrinkles, fine lines, breakouts, and a dull complexion. You can reverse this by taking good care of your skin and hair during the night. Yes…your hair too!

Did you know while we sleep, our skin repairs itself and with a little help from YOU, your skin will become even healthier. A proper nightly skincare routine will help improve your skin tone, make your skin glow, reduce blemishes, and hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

1. Remove Your Makeup

Irrespective of your busy schedule or whether you are extremely tired,  Golden Divas you must take time to remove your makeup before going to bed at night. This is very important if you wish to keep your skin looking young and ageless.

When you are sleeping at night, your skin repairs itself and the skin pores open up. But when there is a layer of makeup on your face like lipstick, mascara, foundation, highlighter and eyeshadow, the pores get clogged. This results in spots, uneven skin tone, and even acne breakouts.  You can use a makeup remover, facial cleanser, or cold cream to cleanse your skin and make it makeup-free.

2. Use a Toner

Every night before going to bed, tone up your face with a toner. Toner helps restore your skin’s natural pH levels, which in turn makes your skin more resistant against bacteria and micro-organisms. It also helps cleanse your skin of dust, pollution, and impurities. It is particularly important for oily and acne-prone skin and that is the category that I fall into…oily and acne-prone skin!

There are many different types of toners in the market for various skin types. If you want to use a natural toner, nothing is better than pure rose water that has hydrating, clarifying, and energizing properties. I use DICKINSON”S Original Witch Hazel pore perfecting toner. It’s very gentle on my skin.

Apply a small amount of toner to a cotton pad and simply wipe it over your entire face and neck area, and then let your skin air dry. It is best to use an alcohol-free formula.

3. Apply Hand Cream

To keep your hands smooth and soft throughout the day, you need to take proper care of them at night. Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and mild soap, pat dry with a towel, and then apply hand cream.

Use a thick, plain, and a little greasy hand cream to keep your hands well moisturized during the night. This will help your hands and fingernails look their best first thing in the morning.

Also, it will keep your cuticles in good shape and prevent your hands from developing early signs of aging like sagging skin or wrinkles. I really have to remember doing this at night before I go to bed.

4. Use Eye Cream

Considering that the eye area is the first to show signs of aging, it is essential to take care of your eyes properly. First, you need to remove all your eye makeup. Then, apply an eye cream before going to bed.

An eye cream can help moisturize, hydrate, de-puff, reduce dark circles, minimize the appearance of wrinkles and temporarily tighten the under-eye area.

Use a lightweight eye cream with ingredients like caffeine, peptides, antioxidants, and brighteners. Start applying it from the inner corners of your eyes and gently massage toward the outer corners. If any of you beautiful ladies know of a good one for sensitive skin please feel free to share.

5. Brush Your Teeth

Once your dinner is finished, make sure to brush and floss your teeth before going to bed. This will help keep your mouth free from germs, cavities, and infections. Also, it will help avoid serious morning bad breath.

Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes. Brush the outer and inner surfaces of your teeth. Floss your teeth and then rinse your mouth thoroughly with warm water. Do this daily before going to bed to enjoy a beautiful smile throughout the day.

It is suggested to brush your teeth about 30 minutes after having your meal, especially after an acidic meal as brushing immediately after a meal may push the acid deeper into the dentin.

6. Apply Petroleum Jelly on Your Feet

As beautiful and healthy feet are a true reflection of your beauty and personality, you cannot ignore them during your nightly beauty regimen.

After washing your feet with warm water, pat dries them properly. Then apply some petroleum jelly or foot cream on dry, rough skin on your feet to prevent cracked heels and make them soft. Vaseline Cocoa Butter does wonders! Cover your feet with some cotton socks and then go to bed.

If you have time, massage your feet daily at night using circular motions for at least 5 minutes. This will help you relax and sleep better.

7. Pin Up Your Hair

Some people like to sleep with their hair down, but it’s better to sleep with your hair tied back. This will benefit both your hair and skin.

Brush your hair and then braid it or pin it up into a bun to avoid knots and tangles in the morning. It will help keep your hair off your face as you sleep. Hair contains oils and dirt that can get on your face and cause pimples and acne breakouts.

Now Golden Divas, I know we have a lot of hairstyles that we work with, whether its natural hair, permed hair, weaved hair we still need to pull it up or pull it back away from our face. That oil that is giving your tresses that beautiful shine can shine on your face and give you a horrible breakout-causing you to have a ruddy and dull complexion while you are sleeping.

8. Turn on a Humidifier

Turning on the humidifier at night before going to bed is particularly important in the winter. A humidifier infuses the air in your bedroom with moisture. This, in turn, helps soothe dry, itchy and cracked skin.

Low humidity levels have been found to exacerbate symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and other conditions. But it can be easily remedied with a humidifier.

So, to support beautiful skin, sleep with a humidifier on through the night.  This can be a MUST DO LADIES!!

9. Switch to Silk Pillowcases

Sleeping on a silk pillowcase and silk bed sheets will greatly benefit your skin as well as hair. Silk contains natural proteins and 18 essential amino acids that help keep your skin looking young and beautiful. It will also prevent ‘sleep-crease’ or a ‘sleep line’ on your face that often happens when sleeping on a cotton pillowcase.

The smooth, silky feeling of silk is good for your hair as well. It makes your hair slide smoothly and there will be less damage. On the other hand, a cotton pillowcase will cause hair to bunch, knot, and get unruly.

10. Get Your Beauty Sleep

After a hard day’s work, it is important to get your beauty sleep at night. The nature and duration of your sleep can have a huge impact on how you look during the daytime. Don’t I know it. Visine can’t even get the RED OUT when you’re tired. Sleep is a rejuvenating treatment as the repair and growth process of cells occurs when you sleep.

Lack of sleep can cause many signs of aging like wrinkles, dark circles under the eyes, dull complexion, and fine lines. To keep yourself looking young, get 7 to 8 hours of sound sleep. I know it’s hard to get that much sleep especially when you are menopausing and having night sweats but at least start off with six hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Here are some tips to enjoy a sound sleep:

  1. Maintain a regular bedtime
  2. Switch off your TV
  3. Keep your mobile in another room
  4. Avoid coffee before bedtime
  5. Take a warm bath in the evening

Now, you can rise and greet the morning with radiant and beautiful skin by incorporating these beauty habits into your nightly skincare regimen.

Let’s get busy ladies our BEAUTY regime awaits us so that we can be camera ready for the holidays.

P.S. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water so that you can stay hydrated!
